Day 2 Open Thread + Picking The Lines

Apologies everybody, but an impromptu meeting in my office at work ran about 2 hours late and I couldn't get the lines up in time for the tip-off of the 16/16 game. Of course, I think even most gambling degenerates skip the 16/16 games. If you didn't last night, you might have given yourself a heart attack.

Let me just quickly pick the spread on the 12/12 game tonight, then feel free to chat with me on the comments to this post or on twitter. Later tonight I'll have a much more complete breakdown of all of the lines for tomorrow when, for all intents and purposes, the Tournament really starts.

California (-3) over South Florida: I talked about this game here. California is simply a better team than most people realize. They were stuck in the awful Pac-12. But if they'd been in the Big Ten, Big 12 or Big East, they'd have picked up some Top 25 wins this season and would have been seeded higher. South Florida, meanwhile, could never have earned an at-large bid if they'd been in the Pac-12. Their non-conference performance was so putrid that even a 15-3 Pac-12 record would have sent them to the NIT (Washington's non-conference performance was much better than South Florida's, and they went 14-4 in the Pac-12 and weren't even that close to getting an at-large bid). USF simply isn't a good team, and I'm not going to sweat the three points.

So naturally I picked the 16/16 game right, but didn't get this post up in time. Oh well.

I think you should give it to yourself, you said you were going with Vermont in your earlier post anyway

What would you say about USF/UNC if that came to fruition?

South Florida/North Carolina?? Not sure I need to worry much about having to break down that game...

I think it's safe to assume that's not the real Mike DeCourcy.

.... Or at least I really hope it's not the real Mike DeCourcy.
