In fact, if I was making the bracket I'd have put Georgetown in as a 2 seed rather than Villanova, but I'd still have kept K-State as a 2 seed.

But Kansas State is the type of team that tends to under-perform their seed. They're a sloppy team that is not great at fundamentals. And they're a program unused to being at this level, and are full of players and coaches that have never been at this level. Kansas State could have a lot of success down the road, but I feel like this Tournament will be more of a learning experience for them.

I just think BYU is a horrible match-up for them because of how fundamentally strong they are. If BYU starts hitting every open shot, and refuses to turn over the ball or allow offensive rebounds, K-State could start getting very frustrated. Let's face it, Frank Martin isn't exactly a calming presence on the sidelines.Jeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12767101715737129123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22972768.post-45679720688430649702010-03-16T19:50:55.225-04:002010-03-16T19:50:55.225-04:00I like your post about the byu kstate game. Do you think kstate is an overrated 2 seed?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22972768.post-80547380247613470902010-03-16T07:52:16.603-04:002010-03-16T07:52:16.603-04:00Jeff, I have enjoyed discovering your site, lots o...Jeff, I have enjoyed discovering your site, lots of great information, but I have a bone to pick with you. KSU is a young team and as such they have issues with turnovers and problems running their half court offense against good defensive teams. With that said, there are not many guards who have the speed and ability to attack the rim like Pullen and Clemente, and there are few teams that are as deep as KSU. Martin plays Colon extensively to a fault, possibly because he loves his background and his work ethic, and the KSU fans love him too, but we all know that he is not a great athlete and as such he is responsible for a lot of the turnovers and poor defensive rebounding. Martin will play Kelly, Judge, and even Henriquez-Roberts a lot during the tourney and all those guys have the athletic ability that Colon does not. He can plug Samuels, Irving, Russel, and McGruder into the lineup at any point as they have all played extensively this year. Watch Martin put Sutton on Fredette and shut him down completely. The only team deeper than KSU in the tourney is KU and they can run their opponents into the ground and get them into foul trouble and disrupt their game plan better than just about anyone. You mentioned defense as their weak point, but as someone who has watched a lot of Big East play, and every KSU game, my biggest concern will be our offense against that Syracuse zone. Again, I really enjoy reading your posts, keep it up!

JasonAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22972768.post-25897940731114543792010-03-16T01:56:03.379-04:002010-03-16T01:56:03.379-04:00Couldn't agree more with your west picks and l...Couldn't agree more with your west picks and logic. I agree that BYU will have an added advantage in the later rounds if they make it. Keep up the good work! Cant wait to see the other two and the final four break down.Davidnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22972768.post-84229687668073044892010-03-16T01:42:40.940-04:002010-03-16T01:42:40.940-04:00It certainly does factor in. And I should have me...It certainly does factor in. And I should have mentioned it. Statisticians say that teams that play within 100 miles of their home court in the NCAA Tournament actually have about a 15% increased chance of winning games.

That said, the effect of (near) home court in the NCAA Tournament trails off with round, when you are more likely to play teams with large fan bases that are having good seasons and are excited to travel. So BYU would get more out of playing in Salt Lake City if it came in the first couple of rounds than in the second weekend.Jeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12767101715737129123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22972768.post-42541516312838522672010-03-16T01:35:48.471-04:002010-03-16T01:35:48.471-04:00One thing I didn't see you mention which I'...One thing I didn't see you mention which I'd like to see your thoughts on is the fact that if BYU makes it past Kansas State they'll be playing the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 essentially on a home court in Salt Lake City. How does this factor into your decision making, if at all?

P.S. Great site! Very well done. Thank you!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
