Polls, Plus An Olson Follow-Up

In addition to the Hansbrough injury, the other big story of the week is that the preseason polls are out. One can simply look at the most recent BP65 to see which teams I feel are overrated and underrated.

I think that people are sleeping on Wake Forest and Baylor, among others. Of those teams that I feel are overrated, I'd include Pittsburgh and Miami (Fl). I honestly don't want to get too deep into it, because Top 25 polls really don't matter. This isn't college football, so preseason polls are not worth wasting time studying.

One last thing I want to talk about today is a quick follow up on the Lute Olson story. Olson's doctor says that he suffered a small stroke, and that this explains much of his recent behavior. This just adds more to what is really a very peculiar story. How did this happen without even a rumor that Olson was sick? And how did he expect to go back to being a full-time college basketball coach after what happened? Were his assistants or the athletic director even notified that he might not have been 100% there physically or mentally? The cocoon around Olson and this whole situation is incredibly mystifying. It remains to be seen how this program will recover to play this season. They have the talent to be a Tournament team, but nothing is to be certain when so much mystery surrounds a program.
